    A Rose Past

    in SHGC Members' Posts

Can someone give me advice on taking rose cuttings? These photos I took some 10 years ago around a little cemetery about 4-5 metres square and the remnants of a church on a back road. When I last visited about 5 years ago there was evidence that might suggest I am the only person stopping at this quiet space. The heritage rose referred to on the plaque had grown over and through the gate giving evidence no one had passed. I had thought then, and coming upon these photos, has reminded me, that I should return with secateurs.

A good topic for one of our meetings?. We came across a slightly similar site on our SHGC garden tour last year in Petticoat Lane Penola where there were signposted heritage rose gardens. Unlike your example, these were well cared for. Maggie

Roses are easy to root in winter I believe. Is anyone an expert.

When our daughter moved house a couple of years ago, I took cuttings from many of her roses and surprisingly many of these took root - and that was around March when they still had leaves and a few flowers. They must be easy to propagate as I had no idea what I was doing. Maggie
